Abstract
Roulette is an interactive installation that implements video projection and sensors.
Depending on the distance between the viewer and the projected image speed-related motifs are faded in or out.
The author Lisa Schmitz resorts to material photographed in the Fermi Laboratory in Batavia (USA) where research on the physical origin of matter is performed by applying high-speed acceleration on minutely small particles in a ring-like tunnel construction, the Tevraton.
As viewers approach the projection surface the images begin to disappear from the Tevraton. At the same time, verbs start surfacing in spiraling or rotating motions, describing the conditions of movement.
In the project Roulette Lisa Schmitz explores a central issue of contemporary media philosophy, namely a society in a condition of permanently increasing acceleration of information.
