The international transmediale.03 media art festival, entitled "Play Global!", took place in the House of World Cultures in Berlin from 31 January - 5 February 2003. The "transmediale.03 conference" was organized in collaboration with the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb).

Context
Does economic and political globalisation give rise to new cultural forms that permit the individual person globally effective action? Is there an artistic language of the global, or do the often suppressed dialects of the local dominate? Under the motto "Play Global!", artists, sociologists and media scholars spoke on and discussed the artistic and cultural implications of globalisation.
