Arts of knowledge II - Pictures beyond the Picture |

Under the title "Arts of Knowledge" the Centre for Literary Research in Berlin, Germany, has inaugurated a series of events that bring together internationally renowned artists and scholars on a regular basis. On four evenings, between November 2003 and February 2004, lectures were organized by and held in Berlin's Hamburg Railway Station, which is the Centre's cooperation partner in the series.

Context
Like almost no other object, the image, its theory and history have been the focus for some time of an interdisciplinary cultural-historical interest. Since the iconic or pictorial turn at the latest, the image has been the centre of renewed attention. For this reason, the second part of the "Arts of Knowledge" series of events bore the title "Pictures beyond the Picture". On four evenings artists, theoreticians and scholars were brought together to present and discuss papers, allowing them to exchange their specific contributions to the phenomenon of the scientific, technical and medial development of culture.
